How to Make a Classic Chocolate Cake

 

Chocolate cake is a classic dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It is moist, chocolaty, and easy to make.

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Stir in the cocoa powder until just combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let cool completely before frosting.

Tips:

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate cocoa powder.
  • To make the cake ahead of time, bake it and then let it cool completely. Wrap the cake in plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 3 days. When ready to serve, frost the cake and let it come to room temperature before slicing.
  • For a gluten-free cake, use gluten-free flour.
